Talk, Theme and Activity Suggestions
EuroPython isn't like some conferences with a rigid track structure: instead, presenters are encouraged to suggest and follow certain themes. EuroPython 2007 placed a lot of focus on agile development practices, but we encourage the community to tell us what they would most like to see at EuroPython 2008.
Here are the themes as decided after much discussion:
Python Language
- Py3K (Python 3000 and the transition from Python 2.x)
- Advances in Python packaging (eggs, setuptools, and tools built on top of them)
Python compilers, implementations, language tools/extensions, experiments: PyPy, Cython, Shed Skin, EasyExtend, tinypy, CLPython, etc.
Python in Action
- Open source software in government
- Other big "Python inside" projects
- Case studies demonstrating Python's advantages in real-life applications
- Data portability (including but not limited to social networking issues)
- Python where you would not expect it
Mobile Computing
- OLPC
OpenMoko
Large Scale Python
Web Programming
- Zope3 and reusable components
- Going live with medium-to-large Django-based site
- Repoze
Database Programming
- Python ORMs (SQLObject, SQLAlchemy, Storm)
User Interfaces
- wxPython
- PyGTK
Games
- pygame
Feel free to suggest specific talks within these themes!
Participants! Why not read the Call for Participation and consider submitting a talk proposal?
Tutorial Suggestions
We're also interested in running tutorials about popular Python topics. If you have suggestions for tutorials that you would like to see (or maybe you want to give a tutorial), please add it to the appropriate list below.
Tutorial requests:
- WSGI in action, from HTTP request to response, easy deployment with mod_wsgi
Tutorial offers (don't forget to say who you are!):
Implementing XML languages with lxml, Stefan Behnel
Building and managing biological collections databases with Bauble, Mauro Cavalcanti
